Glass Doors + Bejeweled Blitz = Humility

I have just earned my "dumbass badge" on Bejeweled Blitz.

Yesterday I finally realized that sandwiches at Deli Delicious were more than just hype, they are damn good. So today I decided to venture back for another #29 (Albacore Tuna, Sprouts, Avocado & Cream Cheese) and I took my trusty iPhone with me. While there is no indication on my Facebook page that I play Bejeweled Blitz almost non-stop, I now have approximately 45 witnesses who can confirm that I am memorized by the game.

After placing my order to go and waiting patiently for number 117 to be called, I played Bejeweled Blitz to pass the time. The lady called number 117 twice. It wasn't that I didn't hear her. I did. I was just finishing my game. Each blitz is only a minute long, so I figured I can be momentarily rude. Karma is a bitch. I finished my game, grabbed my sandwich, and was still fussing with my iPhone as I attempted to leave the shop. Glass door, clear day, full sandwich shop and me not paying attention. Walk right into the glass. Loud thud. People saw that I was staring at my phone.

I was "that guy." The guy we all see around town. Can't maneuver through the world because he has to check his phone. I try, try, try to not be that guy, but today I really was.

I promise to not be that guy any more.

Stomach is full.
Ego is bruised.
New high score achieved.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you while focusing on a stupid piece of technology?

Buy Local (Talent): Robert Schultz

I know Robert looks pretty intense in this picture, but that's because he is am intensely talented geek. By day he pounds away developing and writing code. By night he still pounds away on code, but makes time to take in as much music as possible and enjoying the view from his fabulous downtown loft.

Robert is very active in the local tech world and he helps to actively build and organize the talent we have available. He one of those smart guys who might be intimidating to some, but he is very approachable. Almost every day I hear people say that they cannot find programmers in the area. My answer to them is, "look no further."

Don't shake the homeless...

So I was in San Francisco recently and stayed in the Tenderloin District. I like the grit, atmosphere and character(s). I also knew I could trust my handy dandy iPhone to help make my trip mo' better. I was in an urban environment, so I decided to use UrbanSpoon to locate a good breakfast spot.

With a couple of shakes, I found the ideal spot for breakfast: Dottie's True Blue Cafe. There was a line. UrbanSpoon mentioned the line. I didn't mind the line. There were only a few tables inside. UrbanSpoon mentioned that as well. There was no air conditioning (it is San Francisco, I know) and it was hot as an oven. UrbanSpoon didn't mention that. Not wanting to wait in a long line and sit in a crowded and hot restaurant, I needed tofind an alternative breakfast place.
UrbanSpoon, might not know the current maintenance needs of an establishment.

But I found a reliable source...

A nice free spirit (aka homeless person) overheard my plight and jumped into action. She said that the Olympic Flame Cafe was just arou
nd the corner and had wonderful food.

Why should I believe the recommendation of a homeless person? I think it is very wise to trust a person who only has $1.75 to spend on food each day. In my opinion, she knew where I could get the most bang for my buck. I viewed it as if that is where she would go if she only had one meal to eat (I know it is a bit of a reach).

I'm just glad I liked her first choice. It would've been very uncool to shake this poor lady just to get her to offer up another alternative.

The Magic of Technology: New Old School

Do you remember your first cell phone (or car phone as they were once called)? I do. Mine was zipped up in a bag. I kept it under the seat of my 1990 Nissan Sentra and nearly got in a car accident when people called me. Since I only was alloted 60 free minutes a month, people had to first call me on my pager(aka beeper). I would then decide if I could afford to call them back from my mobile phone. After all, it was $1.35/minute back then. Ouch man.

I kinda miss those days. I miss them so much that I decided to return to the days of yor and find myself an old school celly. Thanks to the folks at YUBZ (pronounced Why You Busy), I was able to go back to the future and rock the car phone with a coiled cord.

Check it out...

I love the magic of technology. What would you like to see modernized?
