Happy Mamas Day, Manny

Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were the leaders of the Boston Red Sox until the whole thing fell apart. I am realizing today that those two guys were the parents of the organization and sometimes parenting is ugly...

So Manny Ramirez is the latest big-leaguer to test positive for performance enhancing drugs (PEDs)...who the eff cares? As a life long Boston Red Sox fan and a product of a high school with an abnormally high teen pregnancy rate, I would like to offer a different spin on the situation...I think this was very predictable...and Manny is actually a victim...

Step 1: Teen Pregnancy is a Generational Cycle

I hear people refer to little girls between the ages of two and seven as "mamas" and I think this is where the problem begins. The "parents" of the little
mamas are often young themselves (possibly teen parents). By referring to the young girls as mamas, the parent is creating early-stage role confusion. With role confusion come unspoken role expectations, so when then little mamas gets older, she is already conditioned to move into motherhood earlier than her non-mamas peers. This continuing the cycle of teen pregnancy...

Step 2: Manny's Roots

The most frequent user of the term
mamas is the Latin community. This is not a racist statement, merely an observation. I am sure Manny heard the term a lot growing up...

Step 3: Manny in Boston -- Enter Big Papi

They were always together...laughing, smiling, cutting up. Manny and Big Papi (David Ortiz) seemed to have the city of Boston at their finger tips. I am curious about the expectations that existed in that relationship. Big Papi, given his nickname, obviously took on the paternal role, but what about Manny? How would he find his place in Boston? Well, given the schema from Manny's past, it is quite clear that Manny wanted to adopt the role of
Mamas...

Step 4: Manny + Women's Fertility Drug HCG = Mamas

So Manny started taking HCG (a fertility drug for women) and some say it was to enhance his performance. It was biologically clear that Manny and Big Papi were gonna need some help if they were each going to achieve their maternal and paternal potential. So Manny started the "treatment"...

Step 5: Manny Too Moody for Boston

Last year Manny was run out of Boston. Many people sited his unpredictable mood as the primary reason. Think about it: Manny and Big Papi faced continued frustration and disappointment with their inability to conceive. This put a strain on the relationship. Sure, Big Papi was able to find a paternal outlet with the rest of the team, but what about Manny? He ultimately was chased out of down. Too moody, too emotional for Boston...

Step 6: Mothers Day Conspiracy

So Manny gets busted right before Mothers Day...how cold hearted. He will never be a
Mamas...good for you baseball you have helped break a cycle. But I contend that Manny is still the victim hear. If people would have stopped superficially saying, "That's just Manny being Manny" and actually learned what made Manny tick, this problem could have been avoided.

Manny just wanted to be a Mommy...Happy Mamas Day, Manny.
